A Makeup Lovers Guide to Eyeshadow Palettes
Hello everyone and welcome back to makeup school where I (Professor Greta) teach you about all things makeup! So todays topic is eyeshadow palettes because a lot of people get confused on what palettes to buy, what counts as a palette, and things of that nature! What Counts As A Palette?
Well the answer to that question is simple. Basically, one eyeshadow is a single, two eyeshadows are a duo, three is a trio, four is a quad, and here is where it gets a little more complicated. Just remember the law of palettes, which is that if it contains anywhere from 5 to 8 eyeshadows, its a mini palette, and if it contains any more then that it is just a regular palette. Its that simple, pay attention to this for it will be on the test at the end of the lesson.
What are the basic requirements for a one look palette (a palette that you can use for every step of ones eyeshadow routine)?
1. The palette must contain at least one matte shade
2. The palette must have a base shade
3. The palette must have an inner corner highlight shade
4. The palette must have at least 3 good crease shades
Do palettes need to follow the basic requirements to be good?
No, but if you want to have a palette that you can do a complete look with, use the requirements as a guideline. There are many palettes even that I own that do not follow the requirements, but that just means that you need to use other palettes as well! My favorite non basic requirement abiding palettes are:
1. The Morphe jewel crew eyeshadow palette (no base shade)
2. The too faced white peach palette (not enough good crease shades)
3. The how to make bright eyes from essence (no matte shades)
What brands make good shadows and what don't?
Do-
1. Too Faced
2. Morphe
3. Wet n Wild
4. Loreal
5. Tarte
6. Anastasia Beverly Hills
7. Physicans Formula
8. Sephora Collection
9. Urban Decay
10. Elf
Don't-
1. Maybelline New York (Also not cruelty free)
2. Rimmel (Also not cruelty free)
3. Nutrogina (Also not cruelty free)
I am not saying I don't like these eyeshadows because they are not cruelty free, I am saying I don't like the eyeshadow formula and the brand is also extremely messed up. Sorry if you like them.
